Bingo’s 500th

On this day in 1970, Erine Banks took a pitch from Braves righty Pat Jarvis over the wall and into the Wrigley Field bleachers for the 500th home run of his Hall of Fame career. Rico Carty retrieved the ball after it bounced off a fan’s hand.

Some future Hall of Famers would also to have a big impact on the game — Billy Williams hit a home run off Hoyt Wilhelm in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and Ron Santo would drive in the winning run with a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning.
