On this day in 1966… Phillies Hall of Famer Jim Bunning continued his dominance over the New York Mets by shutting them out at Shea Stadium, 6 – 0. The Phillies offense was paced by third baseman Dick Allen, who slugged 2 home runs.
The victory marked Bunning’s 9th win over the Metropolitans since throwing his perfect game in June of 1964. It is also his 8th complete game in as many starts AND his 5th shutout against them. It also upped his record at Shea to 8-0.
my favorite thing about Jim Bunning is that he gave up the 1st HR after @Bill_Veeck put fireworks in the scoreboard.
