On This Day… Schmitty On Top

On the day in 1980, Mike Schmidt hit the 260th and 261st home runs of his career… the most in Philadelphia Phillies history. Schmitty jumped ahead of former Phillies slugger Del Ennis with a first inning 2 run blast and added another in the third inning, both off Atlanta lefty Larry McWilliams. In the game Schmidt went 4 for 4, including a 12th inning bases loaded walk that gave the Phillies a 5-4 win over the Braves in the first game of a doubleheader.
Michael Jack Schmidt would finish his Hall of Fame career with 548 home runs.
