50 years ago today… the great Ernie Banks hits his 500th career home run off Braves righty Pat Jarvis in the Cubs’ 4 – 3 victory over Atlanta at Wrigley Field. It is also his 1,600th career RBI. The ball, after it bounces back onto the field, is retrieved by Braves left fielder Rico Carty, who gives it to Banks.
